Scoble Says "Microsoft Sucks"

In a massive turnaround, Microsoft mouthpiece Robert Scoble says

“Microsoft’s internet execution sucks (on the whole). Its search sucks. Its advertising sucks. If that’s ‘in it to win’, then I don’t get it.”

As reported by The Times online. Scoble has often being criticised for taking the Redmond dollar and for reporting whatever they wanted in a positive light. But now he has turned on them.

Or has he? I think he’s simply being realistic. He softens his blow by mentioning that Microsoft isn’t going anywhere – they’re full of cash and ubiquitous. So, really, if Ballmer is reading these posts looking for obedience, he won’t get it. But at the same time, it’s not a scathing blow (unless every criticism from a friend is taken that way), it’s simply a constructive comment.

However, look at the headline on The Times and compare it with Scoble’s own – “Microsoft tells MVPs “we’re in it to win” — Really?” and you can see the way this will all go. Rabid, foaming stories in the press which will blow this out of all proportion while Robert Scoble shrugs his shoulders and says “that’s not what I meant”. Should be fun either way.

  1. Wow… quite a telling article, that!

  2. I first read the title as “Scooby says. . . ” and thought . o O ( But surely Scooby-doo would say ‘ricrorosft rucks’? )

  3. Judging by some of the comments he has received in the press over the last few years, if he had been Scooby it would have been more favourable!

Maybe the Microsoft checks have run out and he’s turning on them……
