Songbird is a Web player built from Firefox‘s browser engine. Songbird is open source, will run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and supports user contributed, cross-platform extensions.

Currently, only the Windows version is available for download. But the Mac and Linux ports are coming ever nearer. The current, proof of concept, version is reported as being very slow. But then, isn’t that what alpha and beta programs are for? Bug testing and the like?

Anyway, if it interests you, go to the site and grab it. Just remember to let the developers know of any problems you find.

  1. Hmmpphht, I’m only seeing Windows downloads..

  2. Yeah. They say that they are working on a Mac and Linux port, but they don’t have any idea of a date for release.
